Yoga for Seniors and Nursing Home Residents: Growing Old is the stage when you have more time for yourself, your family, for leisure, recreation and relaxation. However, it is also the time when you are more susceptible to some ailments that are linked to old age such as Arthritis, Rheumatism, incontinence and High Blood Pressure. This raises the need for the seniors to stay fit and healthy during this time in their lives. But the degeneration of the body also sets some limits to the types of exercises they can do. This leads to the practice of milder forms of exercise such as jogging, brisk walking, and Yoga. Yoga can be adapted to the needs and abilities of our Senior Citizens and Nursing Home residents and deals with your whole being. It makes the body fitter, the mind calmer and more relaxed. Yoga is also beneficial in the prevention and control of common health and emotional problems. It helps you in becoming more in touch with yourself and your body enabling you to accept who you are and the state you are in which creates a positive approach in life. Depending on the needs of the group, yoga for seniors and nursing home residents can be done in chairs, standing holding the back of a chair or on the floor on a regular yoga mat. Yoga truely is for Every ~ Body. |

A Note from the Universe...The essential difference between you and I, apart from your unique saunter and savoir-faire, is that I know, to the core of my being, that the only difference between "have" and "have-not," is imagination. Tallyho, The Universe TUT... A Note from the Universe 10/19/07 |
"After my first yoga class with Stephanie I was hooked. I leave her class feeling like I’ve worked, but also feeling like I’ve got a lot of energy—and I feel happy! I am an athletic person, and yoga helps me to keep doing what I like to do—bike riding, playing tennis, walking, and skiing—without the minor injuries and aches that I used to get. Yoga also helps me strengthen the muscles that don’t get enough attention, esp. in my back, shoulders, and arms. It also helps me practice focus, relaxation, and positive thinking. Stephanie creates a professional and supportive environment for our yoga practice. Her training is thorough, and her heart is really into to this. You can tell that this is what she loves to do!" "Stephanie visited our yoga classes at Mendham High School as a guest instructor. Prior to her sessions with the classes, the students were skeptical about the process and philosophy of this fine art. Her enthusiasm and knowledge boosted the students' awareness and many expressed interest in pursuing further classes." Robin |

"My yoga practice has given me a sense of well being and inner peace during a very difficult time in my life. I believe that yoga has helped me to be calm and has eased my stress. I am not an athletic person, and I have noticed that my arms and legs are more toned. I have also been able to do poses I never thought possible with Stephanie's guidance. Stephanie is able to adjust poses for any level. You never feel judged. I look forward to going to yoga. Yoga is the greatest thing I have done for myself." Jenn |
